A Little Backstory

My Dad tells the story of how my grandfather donated vast swathes of land for the AIC to set-up a school which are currently known as Obwolo Primary and Secondary School located in Kajulu, Kisumu County in Kenya. He believed in investing in the community and wanted the school to be of benefit to the local children and community. He also tells of how he was named after his grandmother and that he had to change his name via deed poll when his father, my grandfather died so as to keep the family name going and not die with him. That name was O’Tengo which he then shortened to Tengo and added on his fathers last name, making it a double barrelled name: Onyango-Tengo.
I wanted to keep the family name and legacy of investing in the community and that is how the name House Of Tengo came about. Through the House Of Tengo Foundation, I hope that i will be able to fulfil this.
Love,
S.D. Onyango x
